Diagnosing Automotive Problems

Car Breakdowns: How Often Is Too Often?

If you find yourself missing an appointment and being late for work too often as a result a faulty car, it can only mean that your car needs some major auto repair or that it's time to get rid of it. But since most owners are not savvy with the mechanics of cars, the only option you have is to employ the services of a good auto repair garage.

So before you decide sell off your car or that it is time for it to hit the junkyard permanently, arrange for a visit to an auto repair shop, like Terwood Auto Repair, and have them give your car a thorough inspection.

It is better to leave the car with the mechanic even if it means you have to hire a car for a couple of days in order to allow the experts ample time to diagnose the problems that your car might have.

Most Common Problems With Automobiles

  • Spark plugs

  • Damage caused by accidents

  • Faulty wires in clutch cables

  • Transmission problems

  • Malfunctioning starter motor

  • Faulty alternator

  • Defective batteries

Of course, the list of possible vehicle mechanical issues that may require professional auto repair is far much larger than this. However, most car problems will generally fall under the above mentioned issues.

A good mechanic will be able to troubleshoot and identify the problem(s). You might be pleasantly surprised to know that the problem is something that can be fixed by changing a part that is readily available and not too expensive.

For instance, a car battery might be the source of your many breakdowns. This is because, with age, the battery may become less and less reliable. Failures may also be caused by the terminals or clamp connections. If they are the culprits, then your mechanic may tune them up by lubricating them with grease or petroleum jelly in order to protect the terminals against corrosion.

If the battery is too far gone, the best course of action would be to buy a new one and let your mechanic install it for you. Unfortunately, if the car has a transmission problem, if not caught early it might be fairly expensive to fix.

Symptoms of Transmission Problems

  • Shifting gears for a manual car will be physically hard to achieve

  • During acceleration, grinding, slipping, and jumping may be experienced as the car shift gears

  • You may hear clunking, whistling, or screeching sounds coming from the vehicle

Transmission issues are complex, and whether they are fixable may depend on how severe the problems have become.

At any rate, if your car is breaking down too frequently, it's best that you make time for an auto repair mechanic to give it thorough check up—the earlier the better.

I have never been great with cars, which is why I started thinking more seriously about diagnosing and treating my own vehicle. I wanted to be able to fix things on my own, even if it meant spending an entire Saturday dedicated to the process. Fortunately, a friend of mine is an expert in car repairs, and really walked me through different ways to take care of various problems. I wanted to start a new blog all about diagnosing and resolving auto repairs, so I made this website. Check out this blog for great information about automotive care. You won't regret that you did!
